trekking the himalyays

so we got up at 430am to start out journey to his house a village 3k north of mcloud ganj, with a extremely vague idea of where to go, we finally made it there at 6 to find everyone still asleep.  so we caught our breathe after the demanding 500m hike to his house and feared the 5000m trek ahead us!

we got there with no water and had not eatin anything. they made us some doggy black tea which instantly came back up.. perhaps the water..... i duno but not a good way to start. anyways we then set off. AJ (our guide) a native to the area assured us we could get water soon. so off we go.

it 2ish hour before we reached a lovley mountain cafe. were we had chai and downed a bunch of water.. with every step the view became more breath taking.... literally breath takin... the air condition gets very tin and u find ur selfpanting after a couple of steps.  so we made it 2 our first stop tarun or somehting like that 2500 meters. we took a break there for about half and hour then treked to our base camp at snowline, 3300 meters. we arrived there at about 4. just in time for a major hail storm, fortunately there was a man there with a hut, where we took refuge. we were ment to walk another 2k from here but we were so exhausted we stayed there that night, to get good rest for tomorrows summit to indarh pass. the man made us tea, breakfest, dinner.. etc.. and by night we enjoyed the stars to a fire and a couple glasses of rum. we also got to be there during a full moon, pretty epic)

we got up the next day and started the trek to the pass. took us about 5 hours to get there from snowline and 3 hours to return. the views were spectacular and once on the top the view to the other side was amazing!!! cant really describe it but pics will come. so ye we got bac to base camp at night fall made another fire and got drunk.. me and chris felt very weak on the first day. but today charlie and nick ( an aussie ) traveling with us fell to the altitude sickness. kinda scary getting light headed and feeling woobly when u r jumping accross rocks 1000's of meters up. how  no one fell and got injured i dont no.

anways a great day.. the next morning we packed and only hiked for a hour before aj said do u want to stay in that temple or a cave. and we all saw the temple and views and said temple. ( it had a stone hut just to the right of the temple where we slept.) plus it ment settling down for the day and charlies head was playing up again. staying in a temple on the very peak of a mountain was the highlight for me for sure and i think the other felt the same away. truly magical experience, and someone had left some hash as an offering in the temple, so AJ laughed grabbed it and said here boys enjoy i will smoke this with u as it is very holly. so an amaizng night up there!!!! then we got up the next morning and hiked back down to aj's guest house. called osho guest house, all the people there fall osho.. duno if anyone has heard of osho but he is a spiritual leader, ( not a religion) they have views and things like that... mainly believe life should not be lived seriously and everything should be fun and laughter.  anyways got back rested and  aj made us dinner and brought us a bottle of wiskey.  which was ncie but we wanted an early night as we had to get a 5 oclock bus the next day to amiristar. but he insisted we drank it all with him so we did.

got up at 3 and started our voyage to the golden temple amirista!!!

Dharamsala, Mcloud Ganj and home of the dalai lama

so Rishikesh to Dharamsala was again a very termagant  bus journey, and it was the first time we realized how much  more bumby it is in the very back. o well we each had to seat and it only got there 3 hours late!!! not bad for indian time.

first impression of the place was amazing. tiny town lodged on the side of a giant mountain. why they choose that location i dont no it must have been a nightmare building it all. maybe because mcloud ganj is made of mainly Tibetan refuges and after a 4 month trek through the Himalayas to finally be free from silly old china, they didnt want to walk any further and said f**K it we r building here. But yes a very refreshing place, beautiful views colorful clothes and far less westernized than rishikesh. and finally we had booze again!!!!!

We originally wanted to trek in malli or kalu but there weather at this time is far to extreme and everything is closed so we were told by many other travelers to miss it and trek in mcloud. So we took a day to settle in then decided we would book a couple day trek into the Himalayas in particular a point 5500 meters up indrahar pass. this would be our goal or summit!!!! we had heard thats the place to go..

so we went into a travel broker and booked a guide. after debating the price for several minutes we finnaly got him down to what we thought was a reasonable price. 5000rp each ($100) for 5 days 4 night, shelter, food guide all included. so we went to a bar to celebrate with a beer. we then started chating with the bar tender about the trip and he asked may i ask how much u paid???? we said 15000rp for everything.. which we thought was good. he laughed and said haha u got ripped off. i no a trekker  who will take u into the mountains for much cheaper. so he called his friend who came down in minutes. right away we new he was the guy we wanted!!!! we asked how much he wanted and he replyed, i dont have a price just give me what ever u think is fair. if u think i did a good job and u enjoyed urself pay me something if u didnt have a good time dont ay e at all. so we thought huh ok...... next question, will u provided tents and food. he laughed and said "tents, u dont want to carry a tent we will sleep in caves" he then said "i have 1 main rule, u have to bring a couple of bottles or rum or whiskey to keep us warm at night." at this point we were positive this was our guy!!! so he wrote us out a check list of food and thing we would need and said be at my house at 6am tomorrow morning.  So we left the bar at 5 drunk trying to shop for a  4 day trek into the mountain.

here we go!!!!!

sorry about the pic delay we will have tons up soon!!

Agra and Rishikesh

Agra was short and sweet. we arrived in the evening and checked into a guest house which over looked the taj Mahal. managed to get there in time for the sun set, which was nice! the next day we went to see the taj and where blown away by the price 750 rp which is only about 15, but tons over here$. which is the foreigners rate the local rate is 7rp. slight differance. anyways the taj was amazing a little smaller then we all had imagined but beautiful.  we then went to agra fort but didnt go in because it cost more money and the taj had already hit a weeks worth of hostels out of our pockets.  lol.  we left arga later that night

we where going to go by Delhi, but decided to miss it  because big cities smell funny. so we got a night bus to rishikesh. the yoga capital of the world!!!

Rishikesh was everything we had hoped for!! a town wedged between 2 mountains and the ganges flowing between ether side. the place is incredible, we arrived really early in the morning after a very very bumpy trip through the mountains and checked in to a ashram. here they  offered yoga in the morning and afternoon and meditation in the evening. we all took part in the yoga charlie only manged to drag him self to 1 morning session. but we enjoyed it  all and can now all touch our toes!!!!

the restaurants all has international menues, but it was all veg. so we had Mexican, Italian, Chinese everything!!! and it was all really good. all the restaurants where set up overlooking the ganges and most has the lower tables with tons of cushions. we  had only intended of staying here for a couple of nights but ended up staying for 7 days. we loved it! except the fact that there was no meat and alcohol was illegal, however many other thing grew freely!!!!

we found an amazing water fall about a 4 km walk north or town! ended up going there twice because the first time me and chris went charlie had gotten the delhi bellie and was sick for a day or so.. the place was gorgeous.

we all so went white water rafting, we didnt think it was going to be that intense but ended up being pretty crazy. we did the first 10 k by ourselves and the guide. then half way down we met 5 people who got on board for the rest of the trip. they were Indians all fully clothed the women wore the full on dresses it was so funny to watch them get soaked!!

but yea rishikesh was amazing amsterdam but in India, with yoga, yogis and dreads and hippies everywhere u look!

we will try and get some pictures up soon, we havent been able to hook our computer up to the internet. coming soon!!!!!!!

Jaipur

Jaipur was kind of a wash, lots and lots of much needed sleep!!  late one night and decided to try and go into town to grab a bite to eat. so we jumped on a rikshaw, 3 wheel taxi and asked him to take us down town to the pink city. he ened up droping us in the middle of no where, and for some reason we gave him money and got out. walk for a while to find a nice indian restaurant but couldnt  find anything but a itailan place, so we thought coulod be nice to have a pizza and some pasta. which was really good untill 2 in the morning when i got up and was super sick followed by the runniest poo's i have ever had. i woke up feeling a little better after getting it all out. we went into town for breakefest got out of the rickshaw and fass took a turn for the worest and turned around and went directly home and spent all day at the hostal sick as a dog sleeping it off. me and charlie spend a couple hours exploring the town and then went back and rested for the rest of the day. We figured out it was the pizza, chralie hadd pasta and was fine!! so we eat indian food and meat for 2 weeks and we dont get sick, we eat western food onca and get super sick.... go figure

There where some really cool sites, water palace, the pink palace, and a moutain fort.... Jaipur is a pretty big city and we have come to realize the big cities are all kinda similar, smelly and crowded. so for the rest of the trip we are going to avoid the hustle and bustle and head to smaller towns and villages.
we woke up early the next day after some 20 hours of sleep and feeling great!!!

off to AGRA we go Taj mahal
